Mr. Chairman, I rise in opposition to this budget resolution. The Affordable Care Act saves lives.
Today I want to talk about Mark Rouska from Tualatin, Oregon. Mark was diagnosed with stage IV renal cancer, and doctors told him the cancer had metastasized to his lungs. He had to resign from a job he loved as a special education teacher. Without chemotherapy, he would probably not be alive. That treatment costs about $20,000 a month, but because he has insurance through the Affordable Care Act, Mark pays about $175 a month.
Mr. Speaker, I rise in support of H.R. 2146, the Trade Priorities and Accountability Act of 2015. For the past several years I have had many conversations about trade with the people of Northwest Oregon. I’ve spoken with farmers, environmentalists, semiconductor manufacturers, wine makers, workers, sports and outdoor apparel employees, and others.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
May 4, 2015
For the past several years, I have had many discussions about trade with the people of Northwest Oregon. I’ve spoken with farmers, environmentalists, semiconductor chip manufacturers, wine makers, steelworkers, sports and outdoor apparel companies, electrical workers, and others. Most of the conversations have focused on the potential Trans-Pacific Partnership, a trade agreement that the United States is negotiating with 11 other countries.
