Today the President released a Middle East "peace plan" that was soon followed by an announcement that Israel plans to move forward unilaterally with annexing settlements in the West Bank. This is not a viable path to a two-state solution, which must be negotiated between Israelis and Palestinians. Cementing the status quo would further deteriorate any trust among the two parties and diminish the possibility of achieving a peaceful resolution that respects the rights of Palestinians and ensures the long-term security of a democratic Israel.
I am deeply disappointed that the Trump Administration has finalized a proposal that would block hundreds of thousands of hungry Americans from accessing essential food assistance. Limiting the ability of states to waive work requirements for some Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) beneficiaries will hurt families across the country. Several colleagues and I called for this Administration to block the rule when it was first proposed, and I have long opposed the imposition of undue work requirements on SNAP recipients because they ignore caregiving responsibilities.
I am appalled and horrified at continuing reports about the inhumane treatment of migrants, especially migrant children, at our Southern border. President Trump's immigration policies are harming families and casting a dark and shameful shadow on this nation.
Today the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee is holding the first meaningful hearing on climate change in years. The science is clear and the findings from the recent report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the Fourth National Climate Assessment are more than a wakeup call; they are alarming.
