Federal lawmakers from the Pacific Northwest are speaking out following the U.S. airstrike that killed Iran's top military general in Iraq, sparking renewed concerns about rising tensions in the Middle East after Iran swore to carry out "harsh retaliation."

In a series of tweets, the Democrat representing Oregon's 1st District said that while the events transpiring the past few days in Iraq are "deeply troubling," she is concerned with the Trump administration's apparent lack of communication with Congress for the military action.

When two students hung a banner reading "Build A Wall" in the cafeteria at a school that's about half Hispanic or Latino, it predictably set off a firestorm.

The banner was hung for just a few minutes on May 18, 2016, at Forest Grove High School before it was taken down. The next morning, hundreds of Forest Grove High students walke out of class in protest, with many of them marching all the way from campus to the Forest Grove School District administration building on Main Street.

The Oregon Association of Nurseries announced Wednesday, Nov. 19, that Sen. Betsy Johnson, D-Scappoose, and Democratic U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici are among the nine legislators recognized by the trade group as "Friends of Nurseries."

The Friends of Nurseries award serves to acknowledge state and federal officials who listen to concerns and help protect the interests of Oregon's nursery and greenhouse industry, which is the state's top agricultural sector with nearly $1 billion in annual sales, according to the Wednesday press release from OAN.

"I swore an oath to uphold the Constitution and I take my obligation very seriously," Bonamici after the impeachment vote Dec. 18. "I did that today by voting for the two articles of impeachment and I will continue to work with my colleagues to hold this president accountable for his misdeeds and do what is best for Oregonians and the American people."
