Beaverton, Ore. – Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) today joined with Handful Sportsbra CEO Jennifer Ferguson to tout her efforts to encourage more companies to relocate manufacturing to the United States. Handful recently announced a decision to “onshore” production, moving manufacturing from China to Oregon. Bonamici’s “Make it in America” efforts are designed to encourage additional companies to take similar action.
Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) today voted against H.R. 1406–legislation that would allow private employers to avoid paying overtime wages to employees working more than 40 hours per week if they offer their employees “comp” time off instead. The bill is officially named the “Working Families Flexibility Act,” but critics have renamed it the “More Work, Less Pay Act,” highlighting that the legislation increases burdens on working families living paycheck to paycheck.
Washington, DC—Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) this week led a group of 76 Members of Congress working to restore Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Title I funding cut by the sequester. Washington, DC--Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) today released the following statement in reaction to Nike’s decision to expand in Washington County.
“I’m thrilled with Nike’s decision to expand in Washington County. I congratulate the company and all of the local officials who have worked so hard to make this happen. The expansion will be a great boost to our local economy, and it couldn’t have happened without everyone working together.”
Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) today voted against H.R. 1120; legislation that would effectively bring to a halt the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) by prohibiting the Board from carrying out any decision finalized after January 3, 2012. If this bill becomes law, it will invalidate more than 500 NLRB decisions, including a May 2012 decision to restore employer pension contributions for Oregon freight workers employed by Oak Harbor Freight lines.
Washington, D.C.— Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) and Congressman Elijah Cummings (D-MD) are urging major banks to allow consumers to block automatic withdrawals taken from their accounts by Internet-based payday lenders. In a letter to the CEOs of the five largest U.S. retail banks, Bonamici and Cummings asked the executives to voluntarily adopt provisions of the Stopping Abuse and Fraud in Electronic (SAFE) Lending Act, H.R. 990, which they introduced in Congress earlier this year.
Washington, D.C.— Representative Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) has joined with Representative Derek Kilmer (D-WA) and 17 other Members of Congress in questioning the legal basis for retroactive cuts to federal Secure Rural Schools funds that have already been dispersed. In a letter sent today to Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack and Acting Director of the Office of Management and Budget Jeffrey Zients, the members expressed grave concern about the retroactive cuts. Bonamici also expressed disappointment at Congress for failing to work together to repeal the sequester.
